EGYPTAIR becomes the first African operator of the Airbus A321neo


EGYPTAIR received its first Airbus A321neo aircraft on February 27, 2023, becoming the first airline in Africa to operate the type. The Egyptian airline’s A321neo, registered SU-GFR, flew from Hamburg Finkenwerder Airport (XFW) to Cairo International Airport (CAI) on February 27, 2023, on flight MS3211. Once the narrowbody jet touched down in Egypt, it officially became the first aircraft of the type to be operated by an African carrier. The flight from XFW to CAI was powered by a 34% blend of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

Apart from the newly acquired A321neo, EGYPTAIR operates 12 Airbus A220, two A320ceo, eight A320neo, nine A330s, while also flying 29 Boeing 737 NextGeneration (NG), six 777, and six 787s, per planespotters.net.

EGYPTAIR’s newest A321neo was delivered on lease from AerCap, an Ireland-based aircraft leasing company, and powered by CFM International LEAP-1A engines. The cabin is configured with 16 Business Class and 166 Economy Class seats.
