This winter, WestJet will once again offer service to 17 sun destinations, suspended during the pandemic, across the Caribbean, Mexico and the U.S. The carrier also announced today the launch of new six-times weekly flights between Penticton, B.C. and Vancouver.
On Monday (August 8, 2022), WestJet announced that they will resume 17 fun and sun routes across the Caribbean, Mexico and the U.S., which were suspended over the last two years due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, WestJet also announced today that they will launch new six-times weekly regional service between Penticton, B.C. and Vancouver from February 17, 2023 on WestJet Link, along with the restart of domestic connectivity between Edmonton and Nanaimo, B.C.
In Monday’s announcement, WestJet’s Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, John Weatherill, said,
“The restart of these routes is another positive step in the restoration our network as we solidify WestJet as the reliable, friendly and affordable airline we are known to be. We recognize the past three winters have been disruptive to our guests travel plans and we look forward to reconnecting Canadians to some of the warmer destinations they have missed the most.”
In addition to resuming 17 leisure routes suspended since 2019, for winter 2022/23 WestJet will increase sun and leisure flights by 45 percent compared to last winter, increase transborder flights by 60 percent and increase transatlantic flights by 25 percent. Compared to winter 2021/22, WestJet will also increase flights from Centra/Eastern Canada, and 55 percent from Western Canada.
