A British Airways flight bound for Houston was forced to return to London Heathrow Airport on Monday, June 10th, 2024, after experiencing an engine issue. British Airways flight BA195 departed London at 10:00 BST aboard a Boeing 787 aircraft (registration G-ZBKN) with seven years of service. The flight was scheduled for a 10-hour journey to Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
After reaching a cruising altitude of 38,000 feet and crossing over the North Atlantic, the crew made the decision to turn the aircraft around near Labrador, on the east coast of Canada. This diversion was prompted by an undisclosed problem with one of the plane's RR Trent 1000 engines.
In consultation with British Airways, the pilots opted to return to London Heathrow due to the necessary maintenance required for the engine. The flight landed safely back at Heathrow on runway 27R, approximately 9 hours and 4 minutes after its initial departure.
As a result of the incident, British Airways confirmed the cancellation of flight BA195 for that day. The airline is working to rebook passengers on the next available flights to Houston. The Boeing 787 involved in the diversion is currently parked in a remote area near Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport.
