The aircraft, identified as YL-ABJ, was operating on behalf of SWISS as LX1018. It departed on time at around 12:43 local time and was airborne about 10 minutes later, taking off from Runway 28. However, due to inclement weather conditions in Düsseldorf, the pilots were forced to attempt landing at Düsseldorf Airport (DUS) four times.

Each time, the pilots performed go-around procedures, ascending to 5,000 feet and lining up to approach the runway again. Despite these efforts, the adverse weather conditions prevented a successful landing. After the fourth unsuccessful attempt, the pilots made the decision to turn around and return to Zurich Airport (ZRH).

This incident undoubtedly caused inconvenience among passengers. However, it's important to note that the flight was not the only one arriving at DUS that was impacted. Other flights departing and arriving in Düsseldorf were either diverted to another airport or canceled. While such incidents can be frustrating for passengers, they highlight the importance of safety in aviation. The pilots' decision to return to Zurich in the face of challenging weather conditions underscores their commitment to ensuring the well-being of all on board.
