Embraer, Brazil's leading aerospace company, and PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI), Indonesia’s primary state-owned aerospace enterprise, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at expanding their collaboration in commercial aviation. This strategic partnership was formalized during the Indonesia-Brazil CEO Forum on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Brazil on November 17, 2024.
The agreement outlines a cooperative framework for joint studies to explore partnership opportunities, particularly in engineering and the supply of aerostructures. This collaboration is designed to be guided by stringent commercial and technical standards, ensuring that both parties align with the best practices of the aerospace industry and their respective business objectives. The overarching goal is to foster technological innovation, strengthen industrial partnerships between developing nations, and enhance Indonesia’s aerospace capabilities.
Indonesia, recognized as one of the fastest-growing aviation markets globally, presents a fertile ground for this expansion. Embraer, known for its regional jets and military aircraft, sees this partnership as a way to tap into this growth while enhancing its global footprint. The MoU was signed in the presence of significant Indonesian figures, including the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Special Presidential Envoy Hashim Djojohadikusumo, and the Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) Anindya Bakrie, underscoring the importance of this partnership. Gita Amperiawan, President Director of PTDI, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “As Indonesia’s premier aerospace manufacturer, PTDI has strong ambitions for Indonesia. We look forward to developing this collaboration and tapping on Embraer’s 55 years of expertise and knowledge, which will boost our capabilities, particularly in the commercial aviation sector.”
Rodrigo Silva e Souza, Vice President of Marketing for Embraer Commercial Aviation, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the potential benefits for both countries, “Indonesia is one of the fastest-growing aviation markets globally, and we see areas where both parties can harness the strength of its expertise, enhance Indonesia’s aerospace capabilities, and expand its air connectivity.” This strategic alliance not only aims to improve air travel connectivity within Indonesia but also signifies a step towards deeper economic and technological ties between Brazil and Indonesia, potentially setting a precedent for other collaborations in emerging markets.
