
JetBlue Airways has announced its commitment to environmental sustainability by purchasing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for use at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). Through a partnership with Valero Energy Corp and World Fuel Services, JetBlue will initially procure over 3 million gallons of SAF for its JFK operations. This sustainable fuel, produced from a variety of feedstocks such as used cooking oil and agricultural waste, can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional jet fuel. The SAF will be blended with conventional jet fuel and delivered to JFK via existing infrastructure, ensuring a seamless integration into JetBlue's operations.
The airline plans to gradually increase its SAF usage, aiming to double its purchases in 2023. Additionally, JetBlue is exploring the possibility of utilizing SAF at its other airports, particularly in California, where sustainable fuel initiatives are gaining momentum.
