Singapore Airlines Group Soars Towards Sustainability with Neste SAF Purchase

Singapore Airlines Group (SIA Group) has signed a significant agreement with Neste, a leading renewable fuels company, to procure 1,000 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This move marks a major milestone in SIA Group's commitment to reducing its environmental footprint and achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. The purchased SAF, Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel, boasts a significantly lower lifecycle carbon footprint compared to traditional jet fuel. When used, it can potentially reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% on a well-to-wheel basis. This translates to cleaner skies and a more sustainable future for air travel.

The agreement holds additional significance as SIA and Scoot, the budget airline under SIA Group, will become the first airlines at Singapore's Changi Airport to receive SAF directly produced at Neste's refinery located in Tuas. This marks the completion of the refinery's expansion, solidifying its position as the world's largest producer of SAF with a capacity of one million tonnes annually. The direct supply chain established through this agreement streamlines the process and potentially paves the way for wider adoption of SAF in Singapore. SIA Group views this collaboration as a crucial step towards achieving their target of having at least 5% of their total fuel consumption come from sustainable sources by 2030.

By embracing sustainable aviation fuels, airlines can significantly reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to a cleaner future. This agreement not only benefits SIA Group's environmental goals but also underscores Singapore's growing role as a hub for sustainable aviation practices.
