On April 28, 2024, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, approved the final designs for a colossal new passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport. This project, carrying a hefty price tag of $35 billion, is poised to transform the airport into the world's largest, boasting a staggering capacity of 260 million passengers annually.

The new terminal complex will be constructed at Dubai World Central (DWC), also known as Al Maktoum International Airport. While currently a significant cargo hub, DWC is set to become a major player in passenger travel as well. The five ultra-modern terminals will be designed to handle the immense passenger flow, solidifying Dubai's position as a global aviation center. This ambitious project is driven by Dubai's vision for the future. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum emphasized that the new terminal is a crucial step in "preparing the ground for the next 40 years of anticipated growth in Dubai's aviation sector."

Dubai, a city synonymous with luxury tourism and business travel, is constantly seeking to expand its reach and solidify its place on the map. The new airport terminal is expected to be a game-changer, attracting even more airlines and passengers to the Emirates. The specifics of the new terminal complex are equally impressive. Plans call for a staggering 400 terminal gates, offering airlines and travelers a multitude of options. Additionally, the airport will boast five runways, ensuring smooth operations and minimizing delays for the massive passenger volume. The construction of this mega-terminal signifies a shift in Dubai's aviation landscape. With the new complex operational, all operations are expected to be transferred from the current Dubai International Airport to Al Maktoum International Airport.
