Superjumbo Takes Off Again: Global Airlines Gets Its First A380

Global Airlines, a British start-up, has officially taken full ownership of its first Airbus A380. This significant milestone marks the beginning of a new chapter for the airline and the aviation industry.

Acquisition Details

The Airbus A380, with MSN 120, was previously operated by China Southern. It was de-registered in the United States and re-registered in Malta on February 2, 2024. The aircraft now flies under the registration 9H-GLOBL.

Aircraft Condition and Maintenance

Over the past 13 months, the aircraft has been based in the Mojave Airport (MHV), California, where expert teams have taken care of it. Business Class Aviation (BCA), with support from HiFly, has carried out extensive work on the aircraft to ensure it is in perfect condition before it takes its first flight under Global Airlines. All systems are being tested to the standard that a new aircraft would be put through, following Airbus instructions.

Future Plans

The aircraft is expected to be flown out of Mojave Air And Space Port in the next few weeks. The future plans for the aircraft, including its next destination after leaving the Mojave Air And Space Port, are currently unknown.

A Word from the CEO

James Asquith, CEO and Founder of Global Airlines, expressed his excitement about the acquisition and hit back at critics who doubted the viability of the airline. He stated, "Lots of people predicted we wouldn’t make it even this far, and I couldn’t be happier to be giving MSN 120 a second lease on life."

The acquisition of the Airbus A380 by Global Airlines signifies a bold step in the aviation industry. It will be interesting to see how this move shapes the future of the airline.
