Emirates, the Dubai-based airline, has made a significant move at the Dubai Airshow 2023 by ordering an additional 90 Boeing 777X aircraft. This massive order increases Emirates' backlog of Boeing 777X aircraft to a total of 205.
The Order Details
The order includes 55 additional 777-9s and 35 777-8s. This brings Emirates’ total 777X orders to 205 units. The new order includes deliveries of the 777-9 starting in 2025. Meanwhile, Emirates expects that Boeing will deliver the first 777-8 in 2030.
Changes to the Boeing 787 Order
In addition to the 777X order, Emirates has also adjusted its Boeing 787 orderbook. The airline now plans to take delivery of a total of 35 Boeing 787s. This includes 20 787-8 and 15 787-10 aircraft.
A Look Back
Emirates initially ordered 150 Boeing 777X aircraft in 2013, with the first deliveries expected in 2020. The order was finalized in July 2014 and included 50 additional options for the 777X. However, the latest Boeing Orders & Deliveries data showed that the carrier has 115 unfilled orders for the 777X.
Conclusion
This new order from Emirates is a significant boost for Boeing and the 777X program. It demonstrates Emirates' confidence in the 777X as a key component of its future fleet strategy. The airline's updated 787 order also shows its commitment to a diverse fleet, capable of serving various market demands. This is indeed a major development in the aviation industry.
