Airbus plans to hire 800 employees in Canada this year, with 500 newly established roles


Airbus, which is looking to boost its A220 production, plans to hire up to 800 new staff across Canada, including 700 in Quebec, the French-speaking province. The manufacturer also aims to bring more females into the profession and target young graduates for an aviation career.

With the aviation industry surging post-pandemic, the manufacturer is looking to increase its production of the A220 as well as improve the production of its helicopters and defense products. Benoit Schultz, CEO of Airbus Canada, noted that of the roles announced, 500 will be new positions, with the remainder replacing existing employees who are departing or retiring.

With factories in multiple locations globally, the company aims to encourage "international mobility," from Hamburg to Toulouse, Wales, or Alabama to Montreal, in addition to its 10 locations across Canada.

The manufacturer will ramp up operations on the Airbus A220 this year, and the new designations will be to ensure the aircraft type's full potential and support the decarbonization of air transport.
