Lufthansa resumes flights to Tehran: Iran's civil aviation agency


German flag carrier Lufthansa has resumed flights to Iran two days after a man’s body was found in the landing gear bay of an Airbus A340 on a flight from Tehran.  

According to a statement from Iran’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), which was released on social media on October 31, 2022, Lufthansa flights between Frankfurt (FRA) and Tehran (IKA) “are resumed”.

“[...] The security workgroup of Imam Khomeini International Airport immediately arranged for an urgent meeting to survey the issue, but since the German officials have not yet officially announced their viewpoints about the event, the Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA) flights to Imam Khomeini International Airport are resumed,” the authority’s statement reads.

Lufthansa temporarily halted scheduled flights to the country on October 28, 2022, the day after ground crew at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) found a body in the landing gear of the passenger plane. The aircraft arrived at Germany’s largest airport on October 27, 2022. The identity of the person has not been revealed, according to local reports, and police have not yet provided any further details of the incident.    

The Iranian aviation regulator said it will join the ongoing investigation into the incident.
